Renting a car in Colombia is straightforward when you arrive with the right documents. This guide covers the essentials for locals and visitors, aligned with common industry practice and Rentame’s conditions.
Documents you need
Agencies typically require an original ID (national ID, foreign ID card, or passport), a valid physical driver’s license, and a credit card in the main driver’s name for the security hold.
Visitors can often use their home-country license for the period allowed by their immigration status. If your license is not in the Latin alphabet, bring an International Driving Permit (IDP).
- Original, valid ID
- Physical license (not only a phone photo)
- Credit card with available credit for your vehicle segment
Age, payment, and deposit
The minimum age is often around 21, though some companies set it higher or charge a young-driver fee. At Rentame, payment is made by credit card at the agency when you pick up the vehicle.
The card hold is not a final charge—it is released when the car is returned as agreed. Required credit depends on the vehicle group.
Pickup-day checklist
Arrive with time to spare, inspect the vehicle (scuffs, lights, spare tire), and confirm return times. Rentame holds the car for up to one hour after the reserved pickup time.
- Confirm pickup and return cities
- Ask about additional drivers
