How to optimize fuel use on the road
Tips on speed, load, A/C and basic care to stretch your travel budget further.

On road trips, fuel and tolls add up. Small habits can cut consumption without cutting the fun.
Efficient driving
Hard acceleration and braking can raise fuel use by 20–30%. Keep a steady speed, anticipate traffic, and use higher gears on open roads when appropriate.
- Avoid long idling (switch off if stopped 1–2+ minutes)
- On highways, A/C is often more efficient than open windows at speed
- Don’t overload the trunk—extra weight means extra fuel
Basic vehicle checks
Before leaving, check tire pressure and warning lights. Underinflated tires increase rolling resistance and consumption.
Routes, tolls, and apps
Plan with Waze or Google Maps to avoid congestion. Electronic toll systems (ColPass / TAG) reduce queues—and wasted fuel—in peak season.
Choosing the right segment for your route also helps. Ask Rentame which group fits your itinerary.
